FRED Series 2

A single-seat wood and fabric, parasol, monoplane, powered originally by a Triumph 5T motorcycle engine but by 1968 it was flying with a converted VW Beetle car engine.
The Continental A-65 65 hp (48 kW) four stroke power-plant has also been used. The plans were made available to allow the aircraft to be home-built and 30-40 examples had been built around the world.
The Fred Series 2 traces its roots to the early 1960s, born from the vision of aviation enthusiast and designer Philip Clutton-Tabenor.
Inspired by the simplicity and elegance of the open-cockpit aeroplanes of the past, Clutton-Tabenor sought to create a modern, home-built aircraft that would appeal to a wide range of pilots.
Constructed primarily from wood and fabric, the aircraft requires minimal tooling and expertise, making it accessible to a broader audience compared to more complex home-build projects.
FRED's popularity stemmed from its inherent simplicity and affordability.
